SAS Accreditation
The COSC has been accredited for twenty years as a calibration laboratory with the Swiss Accreditation Service, SAS.
This accreditation is a guarantee of the quality, consistency and neutrality of the measurements carried out. The independence of the COSC (which gives the body its status as an association) is a key factor in its rigour and credibility.
The Swiss Accreditation Service reports to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The SAS is actively involved in the designation of conformity assessment bodies (CABs) in accordance with international standards. It makes its own autonomous and independent accreditation decisions.
The accreditations it grants signify the formal recognition of the technical and organisational competence of an organisation to perform a defined service within the scope of the accreditation. Competence is the key to transparency, trust and comparability.
The SAS relies on the following competencies in issuing its accreditations:
- for staff: technical skills, practical experience in the technical field concerned, continuing education
- for technical infrastructure: decision-making criteria, premises and equipment, procedures
- for organisational structure: independence, impartiality, quality management
